Im Februar 1792 veröffentlichte Captain James Hewgill - Offizier des englischen Coldstream Guards Regiments - eine Bilderserie, die wohl darauf angelegt war, jedes Regiment der Englischen Armee darzustellen. Die Tafeln zeigen im Original zwei Typen eines Regiments und wurden von E. Dayes - damalig offizieller Zeichner des Herzogs von York - gezeichnet; nach einem Verkaufsangebot im Internet wurden die heutzutage seltenen Tafeln vom damals 17jährigen, heute berühmten englischen Maler Joseph Mallard William Turner koloriert.

 

Leider ist nicht bekannt, ob die hier veröffentlichte Serie aus 18 Tafeln alle in den Jahren 1792-1793 angefertigten Tafeln umfaßt.

 

Die Veröffentlichung geschieht mit freundlicher Genehmigung der Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Darmstadt.
